New Groups for 2010 - Let Us Know Your Interest
God never intended for you to do life alone but to do life together in community. And God wants you to experience Christ
together in community. Life is all about relationships.-- When Jesus was asked “which is the greatest commandment in the
Law?”, He replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is
the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the
Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matt.22:36-40
The Christian Faith is about a relationship with God that’s lived out or experienced in relationship with others. Jesus
gathered his disciples in a Small Group of twelve. The early church gathered in homes (ie. Small Groups, Acts 20:20) to (1)
Study the Scriptures, (2) Pray, (3) Fellowship, and (4) Eat Together (Acts 2:42). The early METHODists got their name from
the “method” of gathering in weekly Small Groups as a practical means of intentional discipleship. As a result, they
experienced Christ together, they were transformed, and the church of God flourished.
At Spring Lake we sometimes refer to our SMALL-GROUPS as either ACTS2:42 GROUPS or LIFE-GROUPS. Jesus said
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the full. John
10:10.” LIFE GROUPS are about “Doing LIFE Together.”
We’re always looking to help someone find or form their own personal LIFE GROUP. Groups can be as small as three
persons and as many as twelve or more. They may be a Sunday Small Group or they may gather on Family Nights or they’ll
gather other times throughout the week. Each group will experience a balance of (1) Biblical Study, (2) Prayer, (3)
Fellowship, and (4) Breaking Bread together (Acts 2:42).
Established Groups of Spring Lake Church
We need to initiate some new LIFE GROUPS during the first few months of this upcoming year.
Forming New Groups on Sunday Mornings or During the Week:
“Beginning Life Together”, gives you an overview of the five biblical purposes that God intends for your life. This is a six-
week journey that will give you a taste of the LIFE God created you to live.
“Beginning In Christ Together” The heart of Christianity is not a ritual or a structure, but a Person – Jesus Christ. But even
as his followers, our vision of Jesus can get muddied by man-made theories of who he was. Whether you’re a seasoned
believer or a brand new Christian, come walk in the footsteps of his first disciples to see him afresh: as Teacher, Healer,
Shepherd, Servant, Savior, and Risen Lord. These six sessions lay the foundation for radical discipleship as our hearts are
once again captured by who he is.
“Foundations – The Bible” Many Christians today live their lives, plan their schedules, and use their resources completely
disconnected from what they say they believe. This spiritual disconnect is the cause of so much of the stress and problems
in our lives. “Foundations” is a fresh, innovative curriculum about the essential truths of the Christian faith and how these
truths are to be lived out –in your relationships, your character, and your work. Rather than just teaching doctrinal
knowledge, Tom Holiday and Kay Warren show you how to apply biblical truths and implement them in your everyday life.
This study on the BIBLE focuses on helping you develop confidence that God’s word can be trusted above and beyond your
won feelings, values, opinions, and culture. You will also discover how God has made it possible for you to read and study
the Bible and, within its pages, find life-changing truth. The four sessions include: Building Confidence in the Bible,
Trusting in the Reliability of the Bible, Understanding Illumination, Handling the Bible Responsibly.
“Developing a Faith that Works – Book of James, Vol.1” This is a video-based curriculum of the Book of James, taught by
Pastor Rick Warren, with a verse-by-verse study. Handling problems, making decisions, dealing with temptation, and
succeeding in relationships are among the topics in this first set of lessons from the Book of James (six weeks). If you
continue with the rest of the book you’ll cover practical topics such as managing your mouth, avoiding arguments, and
facing the future.
“A Spiritual Road Map in a Mixed Up World – 1Thessalonians, Vol.1” In the first six sessions of this video-based
curriculum you’ll unpack such important topics as spiritual growth, discipleship, pure motives, spiritual reproduction, and
love for people. This wonderful letter is important not only for its significance as the Apostle Paul’s first letter, but also
because of the guidance it offers us today for living the Christian life.
“Growing Kids God’s Way” is a powerful and practical couples group, especially if you have children from toddler to
elementary school. It’s a video-based curriculum by Dr. Ezzo who offers a very insightful and practical application of the
Proverbs (the family bible). This couples group will probably gather on Friday nights. Please check out the ORIENTATION
PARTY (T.B.A.) for all the details in the month of January.
